What is brow pexy?

As people age, their skin stretches and becomes less elastic. In addition, their muscles weaken and stretch, which can result in drooping eyebrows with hooding over the eyes. This can cause a person to look angry, tired, or sad.

Brow pexy is surgery that redesigns the eyebrows. It improves the appearance of the brows and makes the eyes look brighter, larger, and more rested. Brow pexy is usually done along with a facelift or eyelid procedure, but can be done alone.

Procedure

Brow pexy is done under local anesthesia, but the surgeon may decide to also sedate patients so they will be more relaxed.

In a direct brow lift, an incision is placed in the hairline of the eyebrow. The surgeon removes a wedge of skin from the drooping eyebrow. Then the muscle is repaired, lifting the eyebrow. A slight scar will form, but as time passes it will become less and less noticeable and can be camouflaged with makeup.

In a suspension brow lift, two to four small incisions are made in each eyebrow. They extend into the upper temporal area and are made for needle entry. The surgeon will place hidden permanent sutures to produce the lift. The scars are very small and the procedure can be repeated if needed.
